Safety
- Materials used in masonry, such as bricks and stones, can increase the thermal mass of a building and protect it from fire.
- Masonry is non-combustible.
- Masonry walls are more resistant to projectiles, such as flying debris from storms, or acts of vandalism or violence.
Sustainability
- Masonry can last up to 500 years, or even longer, as compared to the 30-100 year lifespan for structures of steel or reinforced concrete.
- Masonry structures retain their temperature better than other structures, which can mean significantly reduced energy costs.
- Concrete masonry materials can be reclaimed for future projects
- Masonry requires no paint or adhesives that need to be reapplied and impact air quality.
- There is less waste involved in masonry than in most other forms of construction.
Versatility
- Masonry projects do not have prohibitive construction needs such as large equipment or space requirements.
